Synology backup works in two directions. Synology Active Backup for Business pulls every PC and mailbox into the NAS; Synology Hyper Backup pushes the lot out to a vault or to Synology C2. One lane alone is half a backup.

RAID 1 uses two drives as mirrors, so you get the capacity of one and two bays stay free to grow into. RAID 10 fills all four bays as two mirrored pairs, doubling usable space and speed while surviving one drive failure per pair.
